Whitehead & Hoag – Cameo Cigarettes – Boer War Leaders (P40)

Issued overseas commemorating the leaders for the U.K. in the Boer War (technically, the Second Boer War) by Cameo Cigarettes.  The set is complete at nine pins.  Two subjects, Kitchener and Roberts have two pins–each with the name at the top of the pin or the name at the bottom of the pin.  The back papers advertise Cameo Cigarettes and note that the pins were made by Whitehead & Hoag.

The  Second Boer War (1899-1902) was fought by the British versus forces in what is now known South Africa and and Swaziland over British colonial control.  The set contains a pin for Robert Baden-Powell, who successfully defended a town during the war and later in life founded the Boy Scouts movement.
